Dial privacy
What Dial collects, why, how long we keep it, and what you can ask us to do.
The short version
- We collect what we need to make your calls, bill them and keep Dial safe.
- Call audio is kept for 30 days. Transcripts and summaries are kept for 90 days. You can delete a call sooner.
- We do not sell your data and we do not train AI on your calls without your clear yes.
- Every call says an AI is calling, so the other person knows.
- You can ask to see, fix or erase your data. Write to the Grievance Officer below.
Who we are
Dial is run by Behaf (incorporation in progress). For the information you give us to use Dial, Behaf decides why and how it is used, which makes us the data fiduciary under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023. Contact and Grievance Officer: Jerish Jacob, jerish@behaf.co.
This page covers the Dial service. For visitors to the rest of behaf.co, Behaf's general privacy policy applies.
What we collect
- Your account: name, email, phone number, and the invite you used. We may also ask for ID verification before your first call.
- Your wallet: top-ups, charges, balance and payment status. Card and bank details go to our payment provider, not to us.
- Your calls: the goal and details you give, the number called, time and length, recording, transcript, summary and the outcome.
- Your tools: when you use Dial inside an AI app, the requests that app sends to Dial, so we can run the call and fix problems.
- Safety records: numbers that asked not to be called, and signs of misuse.
Why we use it
- To make, bill and report your calls. This is the service you asked for.
- To keep Dial safe: stop spam, fraud and misuse, and honour "don't call me again".
- To meet the law, such as tax and telecom rules.
- To fix bugs and improve Dial, using measures and logs, not your call content.
- For anything else, such as training AI on your calls or sending marketing, we ask your clear yes first, one purpose at a time. You can say no and still use Dial, and you can withdraw a yes at any time.
People you call
When Dial calls someone for you, that person hears that an AI is calling and for whom. We process what they say to carry out the call and give you the result. The call may be recorded and transcribed. They can ask us to stop calling them, or to delete what we hold about them, by saying so on the call or writing to jerish@behaf.co. We use their information only for that call, for safety records, and to meet legal duties.
How long we keep it
| What | How long |
|---|---|
| Call audio | 30 days, then deleted |
| Transcripts and summaries | 90 days, then deleted |
| Call details (number, time, length) and billing records | As long as the law requires us to keep them, then deleted |
| Account details | While your account is open, then deleted or kept only where the law requires |
| "Don't call me" records | Kept, so we can keep honouring the request |
You can delete a call from your account at any time. Backups are cleared on a short cycle after deletion.
Who helps us
We use other companies to run Dial: phone carriers, speech-to-text, text-to-speech and AI model providers, hosting, and a payment provider. They may handle your data only to do their job for us. Some may be outside India. We will name each provider on this page once our contracts are final, and we choose providers that commit to protecting data. We do not sell your personal data to anyone.
How we protect it
We encrypt data in transit and at rest, limit who inside Behaf can open call data, and log access. No system is perfectly safe. If a breach puts your data at risk, we will tell you and the Data Protection Board of India as the law requires.
Your rights
